Sapper William Edward Brooks, 153rd Field Coy, Royal Engineers. Died of bronchial pneumonia in military hospital in Boulogne on 28th November 1916, aged 25 years. Buried in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, France.

1917

Gunner Ernest William Groves, Royal Garrison Artillery. Died of Spinal Meningitis while serving on the Isle of Sheppey, Kent on 4th February 1917, also aged 40 years. Buried Sheerness Cemetery, Isle of Sheppey.

Stoker 1st Class William Wood, 6th Flotilla, Dover Patrol. Lost at sea when the Tribal Class Destroyer HMS Ghurka struck a mine off Dungeness on the 8th February 1917, aged 25 years. Commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial.

Private John Albert Salvage, 7th Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment. Died of wounds received during attack on German positions near Arras on 9th April 1917, aged 36. Buried Duisans British Cemetery, Etrun, France.

Corporal Frederick James Smith, 4th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment. Killed in action in trenches opposite The Hindenburg Line to the north-west of Arras on 17th April 1917, aged 32 years. No known grave. Commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.

Private Dennis Arthur Elphick, 7th Battalion, Border Regiment. Died of wounds received in front line near Monchy-le-Preux, Arras on 19th April 1917, aged 19 years. Buried Faubourg D’Amiens Cemetery, Arras, France.

Private Herbert Edward Elphick (no relation), 1/7th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby) Regiment. Killed in action by artillery fire while in reserve positions near Lievin, on 22nd April 1917, aged 26 years. Buried Lievin Communal Cemetery Extension, France.

Private Frederick Hansford Langridge, 5th Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment. Killed by shellfire on 7th July 1917 while in camp near Ypres, aged 26 years. Buried Gwalia Cemetery, Belgium.

Gunner William James Gaston, Royal Garrison Artillery. Died of wounds in a military hospital at Amiens on 5th April 1918, aged 36 years. Buried in St. Pierre Cemetery, Amiens, France.

Lieutenant Joseph Case, 1st Battalion, Royal Fusiliers. Died of wounds in military hospital in Rouen on 15thNovember 1918, aged 37 years. Wounds received in village of Jenlain on 4th November. Also buried St. Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen, France.

Private Frederick Elphick, 98th Coy, Labour Corps. Died of malaria in Salonika (now Thessalonika) on 21stNovember 1918, aged 29 years. Buried Mikra British Cemetery, Kalamaria, Greece.

1919

Pioneer George Page, 36th Signal Company, Royal Engineers. Died of cholera in India on 15th July 1919, aged 27 years. Buried in the Landi Kotal cemetery near the Khyber Pass and also commemorated on Delphi (India Gate) Memorial (actually died during The Third Afghan War but included on the school memorial)

1920

Lieutenant Bernard George Oldaker, 8th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force. Died of pulmonary tuberculosis contracted on active service, on 10th June 1920, aged 27 years. Buried Mountain View Cemetery, Vancouver, Canada.

Percy Horsley, village chemist, killed on 27th May 1941, when a German bomb fell on the village, aged 62 years. Buried in St. Mary’s Churchyard, Newick.

Corporal Frances Walter Kingsland, Royal Army Services Corps. Killed in action in North Africa on 5thDecember 1941, aged 22 years. Buried Halfaya Sollum War Cemetery, Egypt.

1943

Lieutenant Anthony Hutton-Riddell, 1st Royal Dragoons, Royal Armoured Corps. Died in North Africa on 28th March 1943, aged 24 years. Buried in El Alamein Cemetery, Egypt.

Lance Corporal Jack Weston, 1st Battalion, Royal Berkshire Regiment. Killed in action in Burma on 2ndApril 1943, aged 30 years. No known grave. Commemorated on the Rangoon Memorial, Burma.

1944
