Councillor Melanie Thew

Today (6th August) the flags on The Green are at half-mast in memory of Councillor Mel Thew who has sadly passed away following a lengthy illness, she will be sorely missed by us all on Newick Parish Council and her many friends in Newick.

Mel was Newick through and through and extremely active within the village. As well as being a very long-term and active member of the Council, she involved herself in many other areas of Village life, including the Twinning association where she was the President. As a councillor she was for many years and right up to her passing, the Chair of the Environment and Recreation committee and a huge driver behind major projects such as the new skate park with its associated outside gym area and of course the biggest project of all, the complete renovation of the Sports Pavilion.

She loved Newick and was committed in all she did, to her family, friends, colleagues and to the Village of Newick. We have lost a loving and caring person and friend and at this sad time our thoughts and our sympathy go out to her family.

Thank you for everything Mel and rest in peace.
